The glorious history of power of choice on planet earth

There is a history of humankind achieving more and more individual freedom. Greece and Rome, which gave us so much, were slave-based economies. Aristotle and Socrates and Marcus Aurelius and Cicero and all of those wonderful philosophers has the time to philosophize because their slaves were busily slaving away at the things people without slaves have to do.

I am not making a judgement simply pointing out that individual freedom and power of choice had a long slow road to the present state of human rights, which are offering up their own set of problems.
