Why Mad Hatters?

At this point, the whole AI evolution is somewhat madcap. Players of every type are on the scene. Trillions are being bandied about and opinions abound --- everyone may be out of work and the devil is lurking in the shadows. On the other hand, the potential for the betterment of mankind is truly breathtaking.  

As with any undertaking of this scale, personal agendas, inequities, falsehoods, arrogance and sheer foolishness may also enter the scene.

In all of this, however, there is an element that is being missed almost entirely. It is remarkable, powerful, and transformative. The Pope alluded to it recently. It is the factor that will ultimately determine the outcome of AI.  

It is the self-determinism, character and ethical sense of the individuals using it that will determine the outcome.

That is what the book is about.  

It is based on over 20,000 hours of work with individuals, one on one, working directly to increase power of choice, creativity, control of own attention and responsibility.

The true battle for the future of AI will be won by making individuals sane enough, self-determined enough, and ethical enough to use it properly.

I am an architect, a painter, and a consultant. I write not just as an observer, but as someone who has put in long hours addressing this and who has come to respect, despite the bandwidth of human ability and folly, the incredible potential and uniqueness of the individual.
